The Financial Times, that distinctive pink newspaper in existence since 1888, released their list of Top Financial Advisers for 2014, and Glassman Wealth Services was one of just 10 Registered Investment Advisory firms in Virginia to receive this honor and among only 25 firms chosen from the DC metro area.
What makes this announcement different is, for the first time, The Financial Times included Registered Investment Advisors or RIAs in their national rankings. Up to now, their annual Top Financial Adviser ranking only included advisors registered with a broker-dealer. This distinction is significant since RIAs have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interest of their clients, whereas registered representatives are just required to make investment recommendations that are suitable for the investor.

The Financial Times 300 Top Registered Investment Advisers list represents a giant leap forward for RIA firms as they gain recognition for the growing impact that they have on the investment and financial advisory industry. Read by over 1.3 million people in 140 countries, The Financial Times invited 2,000 qualified firms to apply for consideration, (those with more than $300 million in assets under management) and selected their top 300 firms from 37 states and the District of Columbia.
In its report, The Financial Times describes the “average” firm on the Top 300 list as having been in existence for 24 years and managing $2.8 billion in assets. For us, to be included in this first-ever ranking of RIAs by The Financial Times is an even greater honor when you consider that Barry Glassman founded the firm in 2009, and we now manage close to $800 million. By using sophisticated technology and advanced investment and financial planning strategies, Glassman Wealth Services is able to provide the services and expertise typically found at the largest firms.
This is the second time this year that Glassman Wealth Services has been included in an inaugural Top Financial Advisor list for Registered Investment Advisors. Earlier this year, Barron’s, one of the financial industry’s most sought after rankings, also included Glassman Wealth Services among the RIAs in their Top Financial Advisor State-by-State list for the first time in 10 years.
