Rankings published by magazines, and others, generally base their selections exclusively on information prepared and/or submitted by the recognized adviser. Barron’s Top Advisor – 2025, 2024 (Published Sept 2025, May 2024)
Advisors who wish to be ranked must first pass a prequalification then fill out a survey with more than 100 questions about their practices. Barron’s verifies that data with the advisors’ firms and with regulatory databases, then applies their rankings formula to the data to generate a ranking. The formula features three major categories of calculations: 1) assets, 2) revenue, and 3) quality of practice. We do not pay a fee to be included on the list.

Barron’s Top Advisor Rankings in Virginia – 2026 (Published April 2026)
The Barron’s rankings are based on data by over 7,000 of the nation’s most productive advisors. Factors included in the rankings: assets under management, revenue produced for the firm, regulatory record, quality of practice, and philanthropic work. Investment performance isn’t an explicit component. The rankings are meant as a starting point for clients looking for an advisor. We do not pay a fee to be included on the list.

Washingtonian: DC’s Best Financial Advisers – 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021
The Washingtonian surveys hundreds of area financial professionals during the preceding 4-6 months prior to publishing the award. Fee-only advisers include certified financial planners who do not accept commissions or referral fees. To arrive at the names of the area’s top financial advisers, the Washingtonian distributed surveys to hundreds of people who work in the local financial industry, asking them whom they would trust with their own money. Washingtonian also did their own research. The “best adviser” names on this list are the people who received the strongest recommendations.

Washingtonian Hall of Fame – 2023 (Published Feb 2023)
The list includes more than 100 financial advisers, tax accountants, insurance professionals, and estate attorneys who have repeatedly been named a top wealth adviser in Washingtonian’s pages. These professionals – all still practicing – have been on a Top Financial Advisers list at least eight of the past 14 years, including three of the most recent five.

Washingtonian: Great Places to Work – 2025, 2019
To participate in 2025, a workplace first had to be nominated. A short survey was distributed among each company’s employees; at least 30 percent of staff had to respond to qualify. DataJoe processed all surveys, scoring on culture, ethics, leadership, pay and benefits, diversity, and training and development.

NorthernVirginia Magazine: Top Financial Professionals – 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022
Surveys were sent to all Northern Virginia financial professionals, asking them to recommend other professionals whom they would refer to friends and family. Surveys were open March 6 through April 14; those on the listing received the most nominations. Winners cannot pay to be included; the listing and advertising section are separate entities.

Bethesda Magazine Top Financial Professionals – 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022
Bethesda Magazine surveyed hundreds of financial professionals in Montgomery County and Upper NW D.C., asking to whom they would refer a friend or relative needing financial advice. The list represents those earning the greatest number of peer endorsements. Self-nomination was not allowed and all nominees were fact-checked. There is no fee to be named.

Expertise: Best Financial Advisors in Washington, DC – 2026, 2024, 2023, 2021
Each month Expertise researches more than 60,000 businesses. Custom tools analyze publicly available data; contact and license information is verified. In-house software grades businesses on reputation, qualifications, experience, engagement, and professionalism. The best are hand-picked through a manual review.

Worth Top RIA / Leading Advisors – 2025, 2024 (Published May)
The rankings were developed in collaboration with Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS). Leading Advisor assessments are based on the data that firms submit to the SEC in their disclosures. We do not pay a fee to be included on the list.

Financial Advisor: America’s Top RIAs – 2022
Award criteria included assets under management, growth in assets, assets per client, growth in assets per client, and the percentage change in number of clients. Surveys were collected from the end of March through mid-April.

Inc. Best Workplaces – 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020
To be eligible, companies must submit an application, complete the Quantum Workplace employee survey, and be an independent US company with at least 5 permanent employees, in business at least 2 years, with total annual revenue under $1 billion.

Investment News Best Places to Work for Financial Advisors – 2024, 2023
A two-part process: ~25% evaluation of workplace policies, practices, and demographics; ~75% employee survey measuring employee experience. Best Companies Group manages registration, survey, and final rankings.

Produced with Best Companies Group. Selections are based on company and employee surveys benchmarking core values: leadership and planning; culture and communication; role satisfaction; work environment; relationship with supervisor; training and benefits; pay; and overall engagement.

Washington Business Journal Best Places To Work – 2026, 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020
Rankings determined by Quantum Workplace, based on each company’s employee engagement survey score. The small-company category requires 10-24 local employees in the Washington region. Categories scored include team effectiveness, trust in senior leadership, and alignment with company goals.
